Copper Mining Companies - Risk Framework and Scores

By Wojciech Gryc on June 24, 2024

We used Emerging Trajectories research agents to score copper mining companies against a framework for financial risk, mining risk, geopolitical risk, management, and potential for 10x returns. This post discusses the framework we're using and provides investment scores for a number of copper mining companies.

Our Framework

Our framework, outlined in detail here, focuses on five major risk areas for mining companies:

Note that each score is defined on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being the best score and 5 being the worst. As such, a "1" in 10x Potential means the company has a very high chance of returning 10x. A "4" on "Geopolitical Risk" means the company is worse than those companies with a score of 1 through 3.

Our goal isn't to recommend specific companies, but to use our research agents and LLMs to help clarify which companies might be good investment targets for different types of investors. A high-risk investor might pick a company with higher potential for a 10x return, while someone looking to reduce risk might focus on low financial risk scores, good pipeline of projects, and experienced management teams.
